Manchester United face Liverpool on Sunday in what is considered to be the biggest rivalry in English football. Both clubs are in contrasting fortunes with Liverpool the dominant team in England while United are struggling to be relevant.

Nevertheless, there is a lot at stake as this could be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last game in charge of Manchester United. There are reports that United have contacted former Juventus coach Max Allegri for the hot seat at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, the game is still one of relevance as it has a rich tradition behind it.

Liverpool have perennially had a bad record against their rivals with Jurgen Klopp winning just once in 7 meetings against United. This is likely to change if the early season form is anything to go by. Liverpool have been destroying teams in clinical fashion and Manchester United could be put to the sword.

There have been famous victories such as the 3-1 victory last season which marked the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign as United boss. There have also been key moments such as Gerard’s hattrick of penalties of which he scored only two.  David Ngog netting in his derby debut sending Anfield into delirium.

The latest installment of this clash would see Liverpool front three of Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio mane test the United rearguard.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire will have to be on their best concentration regarding the forward’s interplay. Liverpool would be looking to equal Manchester City’s record of 18 consecutive wins in the EPL.

It would be interesting to see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would pull a surprise on the runaway leaders. Manchester United have also been linked with a lot of players which could play into the mind of existing players. This is one game that is likely to be a classic.
